2016 beeswax, mdf board and metal table legs dimension variable This piece of work is inspired by the tension between the subjectivity and objectivity of perception: how do we perceive, process, and react to ‘things’? The choice of tableware as a lens through which to investigate this subject is inspired by the Chinese saying: “For commoners, food bears the supreme standing beyond heaven!” from The book of Han. The notion of ‘things’ in this work refers to Heidegger’s lecture The Thing, “What is perceived” and “What is real” and “How do we know that what things truly are when we experience it only within certain frameworks such as visually, tactilely and temporally?”. |
